Oamaru gardens

Enjoy beautiful flowers, waterfalls and even a fragrant garden in the Oamaru gardens during your travel to New Zealand.

Oamaru Public Gardens

The Oamaru Public Gardens were established in 1876, and are located at Thames Street in Oamaru.

Entry is totally free and on top of that there is a playground, a bird aviary, a duck pond as well as plenty of picnic areas within the grounds.

Once you enter the gardens, you will see the Craig Fountain which was made of fine Italian marble.

When you pass the fountain, you will be greeted by an array of beautiful flowers and waterfalls. Another delightful feature of the gardens is the Wonderland Statue that was created by a famous Scottish sculptor, Thomas J Clapperton. In 1926, Robert Milligan donated the stature to the children of Oamaru and now it sits in the Wonderland Garden.

For more than 100 years, the Oamaru Public Gardens have enchanted both locals and visitors. These gardens are a botanical expression of the Victorian history of Oamaru and the influence can be seen everywhere – croquet lawns, wishing well, and a sundial.
